Servers
What works on servers, what a server can turn off, and servers with several worlds.
What is allowed #
BuildPrint runs on your client only, so it works on any server you can join. What you are allowed to use is up to the server.
| Feature | What it does on a server |
|---|---|
| Ghost, colors, material list, layer view | Only changes what you see. |
| Easy break | You break the blocks yourself. It skips the ones that are right. |
| Fill, in an open container | Moves the wanted items from your inventory into the container, the way clicking them in does. |
| Easy place and drag place | You click, and the right block goes down the right way. Much easier than by hand. |
| Placing in mid-air and in liquids | Places blocks with nothing to build against. Does not work with strict anti-cheat. |
| The editor's free camera | The camera flies away from your body. Some servers do not allow that. Edit from where you stand instead, see The editor. |
| Printer | Places blocks for you, without clicking. |
| Paste | Creative mode only. Through VoxelSprout Policy, Axiom, operator commands or WorldEdit. |
Easy place, placing in mid-air and the printer can count as cheating. If the rules do not say, ask the staff first.
Server rules #
A server can tell BuildPrint which features are allowed. It does that with VoxelSprout Policy, a companion for server admins that used to be called BuildPrint Policy. It goes on the server, as a Fabric server mod or a Bukkit, Spigot, Paper or Purpur plugin. Players do not install it. Nothing changes on servers without it.
Running a server? The VoxelSprout Policy wiki has the setup: /vspolicy opens a chest menu where you click features off. Commands, caps and permissions for ranks are there too, and its FAQ answers the usual questions.
- A server can turn off: easy place, drag place, easy break, auto-rotate, placing in mid-air (which also turns off placing in liquids), the printer, paste, creating schematics of its world, and the editor's free camera.
- It can limit the speed and range of the printer. The lower of its limit and your setting is used.
- It can limit how many blocks one paste may change. Paste fewer layers at a time for a bigger build.
- With VoxelSprout Policy the server does the paste itself, which is quicker than commands and needs no operator status.
- When you join, a chat line says what is off.
- The shield at the bottom right of the BuildPrint menu, next to the gear, opens Server rules: everything the server allows, with any note from its admins. So does
/buildprint rules, and Details on the chat line. The shield is only there on a server that sets rules. - A key for something that is off says so instead of doing nothing, for example Printer is turned off on this server. The status panel shows Printer: off on server.
- Settings that are off are grayed out with the reason.
- Your own settings are not changed. They apply again on other servers.
Several worlds behind one address #
Some servers run a hub, a survival world and more behind one address. To your game these look like one world. BuildPrint remembers the bedrock pattern under a build when you place it, and only shows the build in the world where that pattern matches.
- In another world the build is hidden, not removed. The Loaded tab lists it at the bottom, folded under In another world.
- This works in the overworld and the nether. It has no effect in the End, or where there is no bedrock.
- Turn it off with World fingerprinting in the settings.
The Loaded tab then says Placed in another world on this server. If you are in the world it belongs to, the ground under the build may not have been loaded when it was checked: go to another dimension and back, or rejoin. If the server only has one world, turn World fingerprinting off in the Schematics tab of the settings.
